This course is designed for physicians, fellows, mid-level practitioners, nurses and other allied health professionals dedicated to advanced wound care.
TOPICS AND EDUCATIONAL CONTENT
This course offers practicing physicians, mid-level practitioners, nurses and other allied health professionals a comprehensive course in the art and science of wound debridement. Students will be introduced to traditional methods as well as cutting edge sharp debridement technologies.
A hands-on practicum check list is provided as a PDF download with the final lecture for clinical use.
At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants will able to:
- Identify the Phases of wound healing and how to utilize appropriate debridement modalities
- Describe the anatomy and physiology of tissue layers and landmark structures in debridement
- Discuss the proper debridement preparation
- List the reasons to stop sharp debridement
- Explain the methods to stop bleeding
- Discuss the indications and contraindications for sharp debridement
- Identify the instruments and techniques used in sharp debridement and nursing implications
